This recording was the item that sparked my
interest in Big Band Jazz, because of its abundance of exciting extended solos.
"Monk, Duke & Me" is one of my all-time favorite Jazz recordings,
and I also became an instant fan of the interesting trumpeter Lonnie Hillyer - in spite of the capable presence of Ted Curson here.
TRACKLIST:
1. MDM (Monk, Duke & Me) (19:49)
2. Stormy Weather (13:23)
3. Lock 'Em Up (Hellview Of Bellevue) (6:40)
I am 100% certain that the composition "Vassarlean" was included on the vinyl lp that I had originally purchased in the 70's or 80's. My copy just may have been a re-issue since no links that I could find included this track with the above recording...
Okay! The copy that I owned was a re-issue > "Charles Mingus – The Candid Recordings Featuring Eric Dolphy" (1972). Vassarlean was track #2.
